Our Founding Story

Born from Compassion,
Built on Faith

In October 2000, a small group of women from the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) of the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon, Musang Congregation, Bamenda, were moved by the suffering of widows and orphans devastated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

The name "AI-ChrisWOV" was coined by Rev. Dr. Aji-Mvo and Dora Nyamboli, drawing from Proverbs 31:20 and James 1:27. The organisation was formally registered with the SDO of Mezam on September 28, 2001. The first office was at Ntarikon, Bamenda, opposite the Apostolic Church.

"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress…"

— James 1:27 · Proverbs 31:20 · Isaiah 1:16–20

Our Background

From a Solidarity Fund
to a Movement

In the early years, many widows in the community had been left in extreme hardship due to HIV/AIDS. Some were unjustly blamed for the deaths of their husbands and forced out of their homes, while their orphaned children dropped out of school, became vulnerable to exploitation, or ended up on the streets.

ChrisWOV began with 21 women contributing to a solidarity fund. In 2001, the organisation launched its first empowerment initiative by training widows in simple income-generating activities and providing start-up support.

As the impact grew, membership and assistance expanded beyond the Presbyterian Church into the wider community — serving people of all faiths, tribes, and backgrounds across Cameroon.

"Today, ChrisWOV continues to grow as a recognised humanitarian organisation with strong local and international partnerships."

Our Purpose

Guided by Vision & Faith

Every initiative we take is guided by a clear mission, a bold vision, and a purposeful aim to transform lives.

"To make the world a place where even the less-privileged live happy and fulfilling lives and look up to God in thankfulness."

Our Vision

A World of Dignity for All

The vision bearers were Stella Fomumbod, Nyamboli Theodora and Fon Glory . We envision a world where every person — regardless of circumstance — lives with dignity, hope, and joy. The marginalized are not charity cases but potential champions waiting to be unlocked.
